call to artists
OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS...
UzoMa is interested in artist's proposals at any time. I am primarily interested in themes that are connected to positive social change, highly creative & innovative projects, or art as medicine. Feel free to contact me anytime to discuss thoughts or ideas. UzoMa is art-therapist run...& I like to be "artist-friendly" here. :) I'm thinking now....and as soon as I have a formal call to announce for projects as soon as October 2007...you'll be the first to know!! I'm thinking about....PEACE....I'm thinking about.....rhythm...and energy. I'm thinking about the unique perspectives of the masculine & feminine....the creative process. Let's see...I'm also thinking about shadows....the number 13...the day of the dead....mad men & crazy women. And I'm also thinking I'd like to do something special for holiday shoppers looking for something more unique & meaningful that would also be good for all of UzoMa's new friends.... I'm very open to your ideas...contact me!! (I've been kind of busy...I'll get my thoughts together & give you a head's up as soon as I can...)
Any questions? Feel free to contact Angela Ramsey Robinson at uzoma@sprynet.com.
PAST CALLS.......
SACRED WILD NATURE
UzoMa needs your environmental art for an upcoming provocative exhibition, “Sacred Wild Nature.” This exhibit will include the film screening of Laura Dunn’s “The Unforeseen” which premiered at Sundance. Through the telling of a local story that took place in Austin, Texas, “The Unforeseen” explores the impact of development on the environment & delivers a universal message about our loss of connection & respect for the soul of place.
Please submit artwork for consideration in any media that captures & helps re-awaken a sense of sacred space, or that explores or illuminates the power, soul, or spirit of place. UzoMa is interested in artwork that is representative of diverse & multicultural perspectives around concepts of place, art that activates all the senses, that utilizes natural materials, or art that has potential to create an experience of place that can heal & transform, or can pave the way for reconnecting with our own sacred, wild nature. Share your interpretation of “Sacred Wild Nature” with me. What are the rhythms of sacred, wild nature? How do we connect with this pulse? Landscape artists & photographers….show us earth’s strange & beautiful places…. places that are a sanctuary for the soul, or perhaps, points of contact. How does one listen to the soul of a place? What does the earth or a particular place say to us?
This project will be informed by uzoMa’s founder & art therapist, Angela Ramsey Robinson’s background as a place consultant with a deep sensitivity & awareness of the power of place. UzoMa hopes help awaken a sense of place, & a deeper awareness of critical environmental issues.
Show Opens August 26
Deadline: CLOSED
….*out of towners are welcome, (uzoMa has attracted local, national, & international participation in it’s first three shows, all thematic exhibitions promoting positive social change) but physical work must be shipped to arrive early the week prior to opening.
BREAST FEST
BREAST FEST will open July 27th & runs thru Aug 11 with a week of intensive workshops, educational booths & resources, & performances taking place Aug. 6-10th in partnership with Louisville area, Squallis Puppeteers during World Breastfeeding Awareness Week. UzoMa is interested in art that celebrates breasts as a special part of women's anatomy with some amazing "perks"....feeding babes, for one! So, breast-feeding images, & images of breasts are welcome...along with embellished bras, bustiers, plastercasts, "breastscapes" & more. I'd love to see a wide range & some non-stereotypic images. Any media is ok. This is sure to be a wild & timely event promoting movement toward a more breastfeeding-friendly culture & supporting moms & babies! This project is designed to have a wide appeal...& to combine humor, "lactivism", & art to create much need "exposure" & help us all in the community stay "abreast" of an important issue. (Art may be more generally "breast" themed...but "Hooters-inspired" is not really what we're going for here...)
BIKE ART. ART BIKES
uzoMa is seeking artwork any medium with a bicycling theme for an upcoming exhibit to open May 25, 2007 during a scheduled gallery trolley hop on Frankfort Avenue, louisville, KY to coincide with area rides & bicyling week events. Art meets bike reflects the interests of founder, Art therapist, Angela Ramsey Robinson & husband, Michael--an avid cyclist. uzoMa hopes to make this the first of an annual fun kick-off to great weather, good health, & creative self-expression. Will consider all, but especially interested in work that captures the freedom of being able to move on wheels, the unique connection to nature that cyclists have off the beaten path, biking as meditation... Recycled & sculptural work utilizing bicycle parts... Art bikes...both decorated bikes & custom-built designs. Photos or series depicting kinetic sculptures or artistic biking rides or experiments. Films or performance pieces are welcome & encouraged. Wheels...creative interpretations...
